A Place to Call Home

Our Community

Nestled between Portsmouth on the East and Suffolk on the West/Northwest lies an area known as Western Branch, the northernmost borough of Chesapeake. During the 1970s and 1980s, Western Branch residents were attracted to the area by the need for affordable housing for those serving in the military and those working in factories/plants.

Today’s Western Branch area is almost exclusively residential, with the exception of a bustling business district comprised of retail stores, restaurants, hotels, fitness centers, a city park, a mall, and several churches. Yet, with all of avenues of interest, Western Branch has maintained a unique small-town feel and sense of community. There is a lot of hometown pride for the local schools, both public and private. Western Branch has also seen a rise in homeschool families. One such group meets at our church campus.

For those of you who might be attracted to live and/or worship in the Western Branch area, you will find a much more relaxed atmosphere than you will in most of the neighboring areas of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. It’s another one of those reasons why Alexander Baptist Church is a place to call home.
